Poker is a game of chance played with cards. In a typical poker game, the pot goes to the player with the best hand. However, there are some variations that award the pot to the lowest hand or a combination of the lowest and highest hands.
The game starts with a small blind and a big blind. After the first player has posted their blinds, the dealer begins to deal. Each player is dealt five cards. They may be face down or face up.
When the dealer deals, the player to the left of the button must post the big blind. If the dealer is not seated to the left of the button, they must post the small blind.
A player must show their cards if they wish to bet or raise. If they do not show their cards, they may pass.
Players can discard up to three cards at a time. However, they must announce how many cards they have to discard. Also, they cannot ask how many cards have been discarded.
After the discarding stage is over, a second round of betting takes place. This round is called the draw. Once the draw is complete, the remaining players can begin to discard their remaining cards.
In a tie, the high card wins. Two players can also tie for the low hand. If they have two fours of the same rank, the high card wins. Another variation awards the pot to the player with the lowest hand, but not a flush.
